Slab Leaks

Slab Leak Services in Tulsa

Dependable Service When You Need It Most

Slab Leaks happen to almost everyone. Most homes sit atop a slab of concrete. If a leak develops in the water lines underneath this concrete foundation, it is called a slab leak. This type of leak is a challenge for homeowners to have to deal with and can happen to both hot and cold water lines, as well as any appliance connected to those lines.

Since slab leaks take place not only underground, but beneath your home, they can be difficult to detect. It’s possible for these buried pipes to show no external indication of a leak, which means you might have one without realizing it. A slab leak can cause extensive damage if left untreated, and in extreme circumstances, can saturate the ground to such a degree that it causes your home’s foundation to collapse.

Don't let your leak become a giant headache. If you suspect you have a slab leak, give our team a call today at 918-300-3988. We'll get the leak handled efficiently.

What Causes Slab Leaks?

Several factors can cause slab leaks to develop within your foundation or pipes, including the following.

  • Ground/foundation shifts: Every house settles with age, and the foundation may shift along with it. Likewise, seismic activity can cause the earth itself to move. These pressures can cause pipes to weaken and leak.
  • Incorrect installation: Though water lines are designed to be durable, shoddy installation leaves them more vulnerable to leaks once the weight of a home is sitting on top of them. If your pipes experienced damage during installation, the spots where they don’t run straight could develop leaks.
  • Abrasion: Pipes naturally expand and contract in response to the flow of water. If the pipes are running alongside rocks, concrete or adjoining pipes, the expansion and contraction could cause them to rub up against these rough materials until they eventually wear down.
  • Water quality: Do you know the pH of your water? Overly acidic or alkaline water can eat directly through your pipes as the years go by. This corrosion can cause potentially irreversible water damage.
  • Time: If you have an older home, you probably have already experienced some issues related to aging fixtures, appliances or other components of your Sarasota-area house. Though most sewer lines are long-lasting, they will wear out eventually. As a result, it is more likely a slab leak will happen as time marches on.

FAQ

Find Answers To Your Questions
  • What can I put in my garbage disposal?
Garbage disposals are not macerators and will only break up soft debris. Mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, eggs etc. are ok to put in the disposal. Things like bones, coffee grounds, egg shells or any hard product will wear the blades and jam the disposal. You should always run water to the disposal to help break down the foods and flush through the drain. Call the professionals at O’Connor Plumbing for help with your disposal
  • Is it safe to use chemical drain cleaners?

Drain cleaners are very toxic. If you ever look on the back of the product you will notice at least 3 warning labels. These are not very good products to have laying around your house especially if you have kids or pets. These toxic chemicals are also very bad for your pipes, causing them to deteriorate from the inside out. If this happens your drain lines will need to be replaced. There are enzymes and friendly bacteria products that will keep grease and sludge from building up inside of your pipes.

If you have a clog please call the professionals at O’Connor Plumbing!

  • Why does the toilet keep running?
This is probably the most commonly asked plumbing question. In most cases it is caused by the flapper not closing on or making a proper seal around the flush valve. If the flapper is not closing, then jiggle the handle and that will normally fix the issue. If the flapper is worn out and not properly sealing, then you will have to have the flapper replaced. Either way if the flapper does not seal the water will leak into the toilet and the tank will not fill with water to push the float up and turn off the supply of water.
  • Do I need a tankless water heater?
Tankless water heaters, while at the front of technology, aren’t the solution for every house. Sometimes you are better off staying with your conventional heater. Here at O’Connor Plumbing we have tankless water heater experts that can provide you with a tankless or tank style heater that best suits your home.
